Winery Background and History
Château Doisy-Daëne, located in the Barsac appellation of Bordeaux’s Sauternes region, has been producing exceptional sweet wines since the 19th century. The estate has been under the ownership of the Dubourdieu family since 1924. Over the years, the family has upheld a tradition of excellence, crafting wines that are celebrated for their purity, elegance, and remarkable aging potential.
Producer and Winemaker
The late Denis Dubourdieu, a renowned oenologist and professor, managed the estate until his passing in 2016. His sons, Fabrice and Jean-Jacques Dubourdieu, have since taken over the winemaking responsibilities, continuing their father’s legacy of producing high-quality wines that reflect the unique terroir of Barsac.
Vineyards and Microclimate
The vineyards of Château Doisy-Daëne are situated on the calcareous-clay soils typical of Barsac, which contribute to the distinctive minerality and freshness of the wines. The proximity to the Garonne and Ciron rivers creates a favorable microclimate for the development of noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), essential for producing the rich, sweet wines characteristic of the region. The 2010 vintage experienced favorable weather conditions, allowing for optimal ripening and concentration of flavors.
Grape Varietals & Percentage Used
The 2010 Château Doisy-Daëne is composed predominantly of Sémillon, with a smaller proportion of Sauvignon Blanc. This blend contributes to the wine’s complexity, with Sémillon providing richness and body, while Sauvignon Blanc adds freshness and aromatic lift.
Vinification & Aging Methods
After hand-harvesting in multiple passes to select grapes affected by noble rot, the grapes are gently pressed to extract the concentrated juice. Fermentation occurs in French oak barrels, a portion of which are new, to enhance complexity and structure. Following fermentation, the wine is aged in these barrels for approximately 12 months before bottling.

Tasting Notes
The 2010 Château Doisy-Daëne offers a juicy, compact style, with tangerine, apricot, toasted almond, and heather notes all rolled together at the core, waiting to unfurl fully through the unctuous, passion fruit-filled finish.
Food & Wine Pairing
This Barsac sweet wine pairs beautifully with foie gras, blue cheeses, and fruit-based desserts such as tarte tatin or apricot tart. Its sweetness and acidity also complement spicy Asian cuisine, where the wine’s richness can balance the heat and enhance the flavors.
Service Methods and Temperatures
To fully appreciate its aromatic complexity and richness, serve the 2010 Château Doisy-Daëne slightly chilled at around 10-12°C (50-54°F) in medium-sized white wine glasses. Allowing the wine to breathe for a few minutes after pouring can enhance its aromas.
Storage and Aging Potential
The 2010 Château Doisy-Daëne is suitable for immediate enjoyment but also has the potential to age gracefully for several decades. Proper storage in a cool, dark environment with stable temperatures will allow the wine to develop additional complexity over time.
