Château Prieuré-Lichine, located in the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux, France, is a distinguished estate with a rich history. Originally established as a Benedictine priory in the 12th century, it transitioned to viticulture over the centuries. In 1951, the estate was acquired by Alexis Lichine, a prominent wine writer and merchant, who significantly enhanced its reputation and expanded the vineyards. Today, the château is recognized for producing elegant wines that embody the quintessential characteristics of Margaux.
Producer and Winemaker
As of the 2013 vintage, Château Prieuré-Lichine was under the ownership of the Ballande Group, which acquired the estate in 1999. The winemaking team was led by Stéphane Derenoncourt, a renowned consultant known for his expertise in crafting refined Bordeaux wines.
Vineyards and Microclimate
The estate’s vineyards span approximately 77 hectares, dispersed across various plots within the Margaux appellation.
