Winery Background and History
Domaine des Ouches, owned by the Gambier family for eight generations since 1743, is located in Ingrandes de Touraine, on the right bank of the Loire near Bourgueil. The 17-hectare estate specializes in producing red wines from the Cabernet Franc grape variety, reflecting the unique terroir of the Bourgueil appellation.
Producer and Winemaker
Brothers Denis and Thomas Gambier currently manage the estate, continuing the family’s legacy of winemaking. Denis expanded his winemaking horizons by working at Joseph Phelps in California in 1999, bringing valuable experience back to the family domaine.
Vineyards and Microclimate
The estate’s vineyards are situated on gravelly soils that favor rapid ripening, resulting in fruity and round red wines. On the hillsides, clay and limestone soils enable slow, concentrated ripening, leading to powerful and complex reds. The Loire Valley’s cool-climate conditions contribute to the classic aromatics and structure of their Cabernet Franc wines.
Grape Varietals & Percentage Used
• Cabernet Franc: 100%
Vinification & Aging Methods
Grapes are picked entirely by hand from vines up to 100 years old, ensuring a selective harvest. The domaine practices sustainable agriculture, using fertilizers and chemical treatments only when absolutely necessary. Each terroir is represented separately through distinct wines, with vinification methods tailored to express the unique characteristics of each plot.

Tasting Notes
• Color: Deep ruby red.
• Nose: Aromas of red and black fruits, with subtle earthy undertones.
• Palate: Medium-bodied with balanced acidity, showcasing flavors of ripe berries, hints of spice, and a smooth, lingering finish.
Food & Wine Pairing
This Cabernet Franc pairs well with a variety of dishes, including grilled meats, roasted poultry, charcuterie, and aged cheeses.
Service Methods and Temperatures
For optimal enjoyment, serve this wine slightly chilled at around 14-16°C (57-61°F). Decanting for about 30 minutes before serving can enhance its aromatic profile and allow the wine to open up.
Storage and Aging Potential
The 2019 vintage is suitable for consumption now but can develop further complexity with aging. When stored in optimal conditions—a cool, dark environment with stable temperatures—the wine can evolve gracefully over the next 5 to 7 years.
