Winery Background and History
Château Lynch-Bages, located in the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux, France, is a distinguished Fifth Growth estate from the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. Established in the 18th century, the estate has built a reputation for producing exceptional wines that embody the classic characteristics of Pauillac. In 1976, the estate introduced a second wine, initially named Château Haut-Bages Averous, to allow for a more rigorous selection for the grand vin. In 2008, this second wine was rebranded as Echo de Lynch-Bages, reinforcing its connection to the esteemed grand vin.
Producer and Winemaker
Château Lynch-Bages is owned by the Cazes family, with Jean-Charles Cazes overseeing the estate’s operations. The winemaking team is dedicated to producing wines that reflect the unique terroir of Pauillac, employing both traditional methods and modern innovations to achieve this goal.
Vineyards and Microclimate
The estate’s vineyards cover over 100 hectares, predominantly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. Situated on the well-drained gravel soils typical of the Médoc region, the vineyards benefit from excellent drainage and heat retention, which are ideal for ripening these grape varieties. The proximity to the Gironde estuary moderates temperatures, providing a favorable microclimate that reduces the risk of frost and promotes even ripening. Sustainable viticultural practices are employed to preserve soil health and biodiversity, ensuring the longevity of the vineyards and the quality of the fruit.

Vinification & Aging Methods
The 2017 growing season presented challenges, including a frost in late April that affected yields. However, favorable conditions in September allowed for optimal ripening. Harvesting was conducted manually between September 18 and October 5, ensuring careful selection of the best fruit. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, allowing precise control over the process to preserve the purity of the fruit and the expression of the terroir. Following fermentation, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation to soften acidity and enhance mouthfeel. The wine was then aged in French oak barrels, with a portion being new oak, for approximately 12 months. This aging process contributed to the development of complex aromas and flavors, as well as the integration of tannins, resulting in a wine with depth and elegance.
ABV (Alcohol by Volume)
The 2017 Echo de Lynch-Bages has an alcohol content of 12.92%.
