Winery Background and History

Established over ten generations ago, Domaine Henri Bourgeois is a family-run estate located in Chavignol, within the Sancerre region of France. The Bourgeois family has dedicated itself to producing exceptional Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir wines, cultivating a mosaic of plots across 72 hectares. Their commitment to expressing the unique terroirs of Kimmeridgian Marl, Silex, and Limestone Clays has positioned them as one of the leading producers in the Loire Valley.

Producer and Winemaker

The Bourgeois family, including Jean-Marie Bourgeois and his sons Arnaud, Lionel, and Jean-Christophe, oversees both vineyard management and winemaking processes. Their collective expertise and passion ensure that each wine reflects the family’s dedication to quality and tradition. Emphasizing minimal intervention, they allow the unique characteristics of each terroir to shine through in their wines.

Vineyards and Microclimate

The Sancerre Jadis is crafted from Sauvignon Blanc vines rooted in the Kimmeridgian marl soils of Chavignol, identifiable by fossilized oyster shells (ostrea virgula). This terroir imparts a distinct minerality to the wine. The region’s continental climate, with its warm summers and cold winters, provides ideal conditions for growing high-quality Sauvignon Blanc, contributing to the wine’s aromatic complexity and vibrant acidity.

Grape Varietals & Percentage Used

100% Sauvignon Blanc

Vinification & Aging Methods

After gentle pressing, the juice undergoes natural clarification over two days. Fermentation occurs partly in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats and partly in 600-liter oak demi-muids. The wine is then aged for 12 months in these oak barrels, with manual stirring to bring the lees back into suspension, enhancing roundness and complexity. Racking and bottling follow the lunar cycles, and the wine rests in vats for an additional 6 to 12 months before release.

Tasting Notes

The 2022 Jadis exhibits a bright green-gold color with expressive and complex aromas of exotic fruits, green mango, citrus, honey, and a hint of menthol. On the palate, it is powerful, round, and harmonious, showcasing fresh grape flavors alongside a refreshing, sharp minerality. The wine offers remarkable length and a particularly long-lasting finish.

Food & Wine Pairing

This Sancerre pairs wonderfully with dishes that combine local and exotic flavors, particularly fish or white meats with sweet and savory elements. Examples include chicken breast with honey and rosemary, curry with candied oranges, goat cheese, asparagus, roasted turkey, and pork chops.

Service Methods and Temperatures

To fully appreciate its aromatic complexity and structural nuances, serve this wine chilled at 12-13°C (54-56°F). Decanting is not necessary, but allowing the wine to breathe for a few minutes after pouring can enhance its expressive character. Using medium-sized white wine glasses will further elevate the tasting experience.

Storage and Aging Potential

With proper cellaring conditions—cool, dark, and stable environments—this wine can gracefully age for 6 to 8 years from the vintage date. Over time, it will develop additional complexity, with tertiary notes complementing its existing flavor profile.
