Winery Background and History
Domaine Henri Bourgeois, a family-run estate for ten generations, is located in Chavignol, within the Sancerre appellation of France’s Loire Valley. The Bourgeois family has dedicated over 70 years to crafting wines that express the unique terroirs of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, specializing in Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir varietals.
Producer and Winemaker
The estate is managed by the Bourgeois family, including Jean-Marie Bourgeois and his sons Arnaud, Lionel, and Jean-Christophe. Their collective expertise ensures the production of wines that reflect their commitment to quality and tradition.
Vineyards and Microclimate
The ‘Les Ruchons’ vineyard, planted in 1970, is situated on flinty soils in the northern part of the Sancerre appellation, specifically in the ‘Fontenay’ area near Saint-Satur. This 1.03-hectare plot benefits from the unique minerality imparted by the flint terroir, contributing to the wine’s distinctive character.
Grape Varietals & Percentage Used
• Sauvignon Blanc: 100%
Vinification & Aging Methods
The grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness. After a slow pressing lasting approximately 3 hours, the must undergoes cold settling at 8°C for three days. Fermentation occurs over 3 to 4 weeks, with 1/4 of the must fermenting in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats and 3/4 in oak barrels that have been used for 1 to 3 vintages (600L). The wine is matured on its lees, with regular stirring until Easter, and is bottled after 10 to 11 months of aging.

Tasting Notes
• Color: Clear gold.
• Nose: Aromas of fresh citrus fruits, ripe orange, and fine mineral notes from its flinty terroir.
• Palate: Fresh and full-bodied attack, with a mid-palate underpinned by minerality and a fine, discreet grain of oak tannin. The finish is long and fresh, with notes of caramel and gunflint.
Food & Wine Pairing
This white Sancerre pairs excellently with white meats, noble fish, and mature cheeses. Gastronomic suggestions include fish carpaccio and rack of veal with morels.
Service Methods and Temperatures
For optimal enjoyment, serve this wine at 13-14°C (55-57°F). Decanting is not necessary, but allowing the wine to breathe for a short period before serving can enhance its aromatic profile.
Storage and Aging Potential
The 2019 vintage has a cellaring potential of 6 to 8 years. When stored in optimal conditions—a cool, dark environment with stable temperatures—the wine can develop further complexity over time.
