Winery Background and History
La Chablisienne, established in 1923, is a prominent wine cooperative located in Chablis, France. It is the principal producer in the region, contributing over 25% of Chablis’s total wine production. In 1999, La Chablisienne acquired Château Grenouilles, gaining near-exclusive rights to the esteemed Grenouilles climat, one of the seven recognized Grand Cru vineyards in Chablis.
Producer and Winemaker
As a cooperative, La Chablisienne comprises over 250 member growers who collectively manage approximately 1,250 hectares of vineyards. The winemaking team emphasizes traditional methods combined with modern techniques to produce wines that authentically express the unique terroir of Chablis.
Vineyards and Microclimate
The Grenouilles vineyard spans 9.38 hectares within the Chablis Grand Cru appellation. Situated on the right bank of the Serein River, it benefits from optimal sun exposure and Kimmeridgian limestone soils rich in marine fossils. This unique terroir imparts a distinctive minerality and complexity to the wines.
Grape Varietals & Percentage Used
• 100% Chardonnay
Vinification & Aging Methods
The 2020 vintage underwent meticulous vinification to preserve the purity and expression of the Chardonnay grapes. The wine was aged for 20 months in a combination of stainless steel tanks and oak barrels, allowing for the development of complexity while maintaining freshness.
