Winery Background and History

La Grange Tiphaine is a family-run estate located in the Loire Valley, France, managed by Damien and Coralie Delecheneau. Damien, the fifth generation to farm this land, and his wife Coralie took over the domaine in 2002. They converted the estate to organic and biodynamic farming practices, emphasizing minimal intervention to allow the terroir to express itself fully. Over the years, they have expanded their holdings to include parcels in Montlouis-sur-Loire and Touraine-Amboise, producing a range of wines that reflect the purest sense of their terroir.


Producer and Winemaker

Damien and Coralie Delecheneau lead the winemaking at La Grange Tiphaine. Their collaborative approach combines respect for traditional methods with modern innovations. Both are dedicated to minimal intervention in the winemaking process, allowing the wines to naturally reflect their terroir. Their commitment to organic and biodynamic principles underscores their philosophy of producing authentic and expressive Loire Valley wines.


Vineyards and Microclimate

The Clef de Sol Blanc is sourced from vineyards in the Montlouis-sur-Loire appellation. The vines are approximately 80 years old, planted on south-facing slopes with soils composed of clay and flint over a limestone (tuffeau) base. This soil composition contributes to the wine’s minerality and complexity. The region benefits from a continental climate, characterized by cold winters and warm summers, with the proximity to the Loire River providing a moderating influence that reduces the risk of frost and promotes a favorable growing environment. The 2022 growing season experienced favorable conditions, with a mild spring followed by a warm summer, allowing for optimal ripening and flavor development in the grapes.

Vinification & Aging Methods

The grapes for Clef de Sol Blanc are hand-harvested in mid-September and sorted both in the vineyard and at the cellar to ensure optimal quality. They are then whole-cluster pressed to gently extract the juice. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with native yeasts in 225 and 400-liter barrels located in the estate’s underground cellar. Malolactic fermentation takes place naturally, contributing to the wine’s texture and complexity without compromising its inherent tension. The wine is aged on its fine lees for approximately one year, enhancing its richness and depth. Prior to bottling, it undergoes light filtration and receives a minimal sulfur dioxide adjustment to ensure stability while maintaining purity.

The 2022 Clef de Sol Blanc offers aromas of honey, pear, and apricot. On the palate, it has a medium body with great balance. The velvety texture is complemented by mineral hints, leading to a long finish.

This Chenin Blanc pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes. Its vibrant acidity and mineral notes complement seafood such as oysters, grilled fish, and shrimp. Service Methods and Temperatures

To fully appreciate its aromatic complexity and crispness, serve the 2022 Clef de Sol Blanc well-chilled at around 10-12°C (50-54°F) in medium-sized white wine glasses. This temperature accentuates the wine’s freshness and allows its nuanced aromas to shine. It’s recommended to open the bottle two hours before serving to allow the wine to breathe and express its full potential. 


Storage and Aging Potential

While this Montlouis-sur-Loire Chenin Blanc is delightful in its youth, displaying vibrant fruit and lively acidity, it can also develop additional complexity with cellaring. When stored properly in a cool, dark environment with stable temperatures, it can be enjoyed over the next 5 to 10 years.
