Winery Background and History

Château La Lagune, a distinguished Third Growth estate from the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, is situated in the Haut-Médoc appellation. Established in 1715, the château has a rich history of producing esteemed wines. In 1954, Georges Brunet acquired the estate, revitalizing the vineyards and facilities. Later, the Ayala Champagne house took ownership, continuing the tradition of excellence. Today, under the guidance of Caroline Frey, Château La Lagune is recognized for its commitment to quality and environmental stewardship, including practices from organic and biodynamic agriculture.

Producer and Winemaker

Caroline Frey, an accomplished oenologist, oversees both vineyard management and winemaking at Château La Lagune. Her dedication to sustainable viticulture and meticulous attention to detail in the cellar have elevated the estate’s reputation, ensuring that each vintage reflects the unique terroir of Haut-Médoc.

Vineyards and Microclimate

The estate encompasses 80 hectares of vineyards planted on gravelly soils, ideal for cultivating classic Bordeaux varietals. Situated near the Gironde estuary, the vineyards benefit from a temperate microclimate that moderates temperatures and reduces frost risk, promoting optimal grape ripening. The combination of well-drained soils and favorable climatic conditions contributes to the complexity and elegance characteristic of Château La Lagune’s wines.

Grape Varietals

The 2006 Château La Lagune is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. The exact proportions for this vintage are not specified.

Vinification & Aging Methods

In 2006, the grapes were hand-harvested to ensure optimal quality. Fermentation occurred in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, allowing precise regulation to preserve fruit purity and terroir expression. Following fermentation, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation to enhance texture and stability. The wine was then aged in French oak barrels, with a portion being new oak, for approximately 18 months. This aging process contributed to the development of complex aromas and flavors, as well as the integration of tannins, resulting in a wine with depth and elegance.

ABV (Alcohol by Volume)

The alcohol content for the 2006 Château La Lagune is approximately 12.5%.

Food & Wine Pairing

This wine pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, and game dishes. It also complements rich stews and aged cheeses, where its structure and depth enhance the dining experience.
