Château La Tour Carnet, a distinguished Fourth Growth estate from the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, is located in the Haut-Médoc appellation. Its history dates back to the 12th century, making it one of the oldest estates in the Médoc region. The château’s iconic medieval tower stands as a testament to its rich past. Over the centuries, the estate has seen various owners, each contributing to its legacy. In 1999, renowned wine entrepreneur Bernard Magrez acquired Château La Tour Carnet, implementing significant investments in both the vineyards and winemaking facilities. Under his stewardship, the estate has embraced modern techniques while honoring its historical roots, leading to a resurgence in quality and reputation.

Bernard Magrez, often referred to as a “wine magnate,” owns several prestigious estates worldwide, with Château La Tour Carnet being a jewel in his portfolio. His commitment to excellence is evident in the meticulous care given to the vineyards and the adoption of innovative winemaking practices. The winemaking team focuses on producing wines that reflect the unique terroir of the estate, ensuring each vintage embodies both tradition and modernity.


Vineyards and Microclimate

The estate’s vineyards span approximately 190 hectares, making it one of the largest among the classified growths. Situated on clay-limestone and gravel soils, the vineyards benefit from excellent drainage and optimal sun exposure. The proximity to the Gironde estuary provides a moderating influence on temperatures, reducing the risk of frost and promoting even ripening of the grapes. This unique microclimate, combined with sustainable viticultural practices, contributes to the complexity and elegance of Château La Tour Carnet’s wines.

Vinification & Aging Methods

In 2012, the grapes were hand-harvested to ensure optimal quality. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, allowing for precise management of the process. Post-fermentation, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation to enhance its texture and stability. The aging process involved maturing the wine in French oak barrels, with a portion being new oak, for approximately 16 to 18 months. This regimen imparted subtle oak nuances and facilitated the integration of tannins, resulting in a harmonious and balanced wine.
