Winery Background and History

La Vieille Ferme, established over 40 years ago by Famille Perrin, is renowned for producing approachable and high-quality wines from the Southern Rhône Valley in France. The Perrin family, proprietors of the esteemed Château de Beaucastel, applies the same commitment to excellence and sustainable practices across their La Vieille Ferme range. Sourced from vineyards in the Luberon region, these wines reflect the family’s dedication to expressing the unique terroir of each appellation.

Producer and Winemaker

The Perrin family oversees the entire winemaking process, ensuring that traditional methods are complemented by modern techniques to enhance quality. Their philosophy emphasizes minimal intervention, allowing the natural characteristics of the grapes and terroir to shine through. This approach results in wines that are both authentic and reflective of their origin.

Vineyards and Microclimate

The vineyards are primarily located within the Parc Régional du Luberon, at an average altitude of 300 meters (1,000 feet) above sea level. This elevation contributes to a cooler microclimate, which, combined with the region’s calcareous marl and clay soils, fosters slow ripening of the grapes. The unique terroir imparts freshness and minerality to the wines, characteristic of the Luberon appellation.

Vinification & Aging Methods

Grapes are harvested at optimal maturity, with the timing determined through both analysis and tasting. Upon arrival at the winery, they undergo gentle pressing using a pneumatic press. The must is then settled and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve the fresh and aromatic qualities of each varietal. Post-fermentation, the wine is aged in stainless steel tanks until bottling, maintaining its crispness and vibrant character.

Tasting Notes

La Vieille Ferme Blanc 2022 exhibits a pale yellow color with shiny green and silver reflections. The nose is characterized by freshness and a dominant floral bouquet, offering notes of jasmine and hawthorn, evolving into aromas of juicy pears. On the palate, it is mineral-driven and lively, revealing flavors of blood orange highlighted by a fine bitterness. The finish is long and sapid, enhanced by delicate saline notes that add complexity and depth.

Food & Wine Pairing

This versatile white wine pairs well with a variety of dishes. Its freshness and aromatic profile make it an excellent match for seafood, such as grilled fish or shrimp salads. It also complements light appetizers, fresh salads, and soft cheeses like goat cheese. As an aperitif, its balanced acidity and fruit-forward character make it a delightful choice to start a meal.

Service Methods and Temperatures

To fully appreciate its aromatic nuances and refreshing qualities, serve La Vieille Ferme Blanc 2022 well-chilled at a temperature of 8°C (46°F). Using medium-sized white wine glasses will help concentrate the aromas and enhance the tasting experience. This wine is best enjoyed young to capture its vibrant freshness and lively character.

Storage and Aging Potential

While crafted for immediate enjoyment, La Vieille Ferme Blanc 2022 can be stored under proper conditions—away from direct light, at a consistent temperature of around 12°C (54°F), and with appropriate humidity—for up to 2 years. However, to experience its full expression of freshness and aromatic intensity, it is recommended to consume the wine within the first year after release.
