Winery Background and History: Lamole di Lamole is a distinguished winery located in the Lamole area, near Greve in Chianti, within the renowned Chianti Classico region of Tuscany, Italy. The estate encompasses approximately 141 hectares, with 50 hectares dedicated to vineyards situated at elevations ranging from 470 to 655 meters above sea level. This high-altitude positioning contributes to the unique microclimate and terroir that define Lamole di Lamole’s wines. The winery has been committed to organic farming practices, achieving organic certification since the 2018 vintage.

Producer and Winemaker: Owned by the Gruppo Santa Margherita from Veneto, Lamole di Lamole is managed by a dedicated team of viticulturists and winemakers who emphasize traditional methods combined with modern techniques. Their focus is on producing wines that authentically express the terroir of Lamole, with meticulous attention to sustainable practices and quality.

Vineyards and Microclimate: The “Lareale” Chianti Classico Riserva is crafted from grapes predominantly sourced from the Il Prato and Le Masse vineyards, located at altitudes between 470 and 655 meters above sea level. The soils in these vineyards are composed of sandstone with inserts of galestro (schistous clay) and alberese (limestone). This unique soil composition, combined with the high-altitude microclimate, contributes to the wine’s distinctive character, offering a balance of freshness and complexity.

Grape Varietals & Percentage Used: The 2019 vintage of “Lareale” is composed of 95% Sangiovese and 5% Canaiolo.

Vinification & Aging Methods: The hand-harvested grapes undergo optical berry selection to ensure optimal quality. After delicate pressing, fermentation occurs with maceration on the skins for approximately 12 days at controlled temperatures of 24-26°C. This process includes periodic pumping over and délestage to achieve optimal extraction of anthocyanins and tannins. The wine is then aged in 30-50 hectoliter casks for a minimum of two years before final assemblage and bottling.

ABV (Alcohol by Volume): 14%

Tasting Notes: The 2019 “Lareale” Chianti Classico Riserva presents a deep ruby red color with a faint garnet tinge. The nose offers a delightful bouquet of wild red berry fruits, floral aromas of violets and broom, complemented by balsamic hints and underbrush nuances. On the palate, it is harmonious yet incisive, showcasing fine-grained tannins and lively freshness. The wine’s development is more dynamic than muscular, with a persistent and elegant finish.

Food & Wine Pairing: This versatile Riserva pairs magnificently with a variety of dishes. It complements traditional Tuscan fare such as Fiorentina steak and rosticciana (pork ribs). Additionally, it pairs well with oven-baked vegetable dishes, game, offal, braised or stewed meats, and can stand up to the aromatic intensity of truffles and very mature cheeses.

Service Methods and Temperatures: To fully appreciate the nuances of the 2019 “Lareale” Chianti Classico Riserva, it is recommended to serve the wine at a temperature between 16°C and 18°C (60°F to 64°F). Decanting for about 30 minutes prior to serving can help open up the wine’s complex aromas and flavors. Utilizing large, tulip-shaped red wine glasses will enhance the tasting experience by concentrating the bouquet and directing the wine to the appropriate areas of the palate.

Storage and Aging Potential: When stored under optimal conditions—away from direct light, at a consistent temperature of 12°C to 15°C (54°F to 59°F), and with controlled humidity—the 2019 “Lareale” Chianti Classico Riserva has the potential to develop additional complexity over the next 8 to 10 years. As it ages, expect the emergence of tertiary flavors such as leather, tobacco, and dried fruits, adding depth to the wine’s profile.
