Bodega Norton, established in 1895, is one of Argentina’s most esteemed wineries. David Bonomi, the Chief Winemaker at Bodega Norton, leads the production of Lote Negro. Bonomi’s philosophy centers on expressing the authentic characteristics of Mendoza’s terroir, emphasizing balance and elegance in his blends. Under his guidance, the Lote Negro has evolved to reflect the unique attributes of the Uco Valley, combining the richness of Malbec with the sophistication of Cabernet Franc. 

Vineyards and Micro Climate

The Lote Negro 2019 is sourced from the Uco Valley, located at elevations up to 3,600 feet. This high-altitude region experiences a cool climate with significant diurnal temperature variations, promoting slow ripening and the development of complex flavors. The vineyards’ sandy and gravelly soils, combined with meticulous vineyard management, contribute to the wine’s distinctive character.

Vinification & Aging Methods

Grapes for Lote Negro are hand-picked and sorted to ensure only the highest quality fruit is used. The wine undergoes fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve fresh fruit aromas. Post-fermentation, it is aged for 12 months in new French oak barrels, imparting subtle spice and vanilla notes that enhance the wine’s complexity and elegance. 

Tasting Notes

The Lote Negro 2019 displays a deep red color with ruby highlights. On the nose, it offers aromas of blackberries and raspberries, complemented by spicy notes and hints of mint. The palate is full-bodied with a rich, structured mouthfeel, featuring fine tannins and a lingering, juicy finish.

This wine pairs excellently with grilled meats, particularly barbecued lamb, as well as dishes featuring rich, savory flavors. Its robust structure and complex flavor profile make it a suitable match for hearty cuisines.

Serve the Lote Negro 2019 at a temperature between 16-18°C (61-64°F) to fully appreciate its aromatic complexity and structured palate. Decanting the wine for about 30 minutes before serving can help open up its flavors and enhance the tasting experience.
