Winery Background and History

Founded in 1859 by Antoine Ogier in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Maison Ogier has established itself as a prominent producer in the Rhône Valley. With over 160 years of history, the winery is renowned for crafting wines that authentically express the region’s diverse terroirs. Ogier is committed to sustainable viticulture and meticulous vineyard management, ensuring each wine reflects the unique characteristics of its origin.

Producer and Winemaker

Maison Ogier’s winemaking team combines traditional techniques with modern innovations to create wines that are both expressive and balanced. Their philosophy emphasizes minimal intervention, allowing the natural qualities of the grapes and terroir to shine through. This approach results in wines that are true representations of the Rhône Valley’s rich viticultural heritage.

Vineyards and Microclimate

The vineyards for Les Dentelles are situated at the foothills of the Dentelles de Montmirail in the Gigondas appellation. This area benefits from west-facing slopes and the cooling effects of the Mistral wind, creating an optimal environment for grape cultivation. The terroir consists of alluvial terraces of stony red clay, providing excellent drainage and contributing to the wine’s complexity and depth.

Vinification & Aging Methods

The grapes are manually harvested, with partial destemming and approximately 20% left as whole bunches. Fermentation begins at a controlled temperature of 15–18°C for the initial three days, naturally rising to 22–23°C and concluding at 28°C. The wine is then aged for 12 months in tuns and oak demi-muids, with 10% new oak, enhancing its structure and aging potential.

Tasting Notes

Les Dentelles 2021 exhibits a deep ruby hue with aromas of red and black fruits, complemented by notes of kirsch, pepper, and undergrowth. On the palate, it offers richness and depth, with a well-structured profile that balances fruit intensity with refined tannins. The finish is long and complex, showcasing the wine’s aging potential.

Food & Wine Pairing

This wine pairs excellently with red meats, game, and hearty stews. Its robust structure and complex flavor profile complement dishes such as roasted lamb, venison, and beef bourguignon, enhancing the overall dining experience.

Service Methods and Temperatures

To fully appreciate its aromatic profile and texture, serve Les Dentelles 2021 at a temperature of 15–16°C (59–61°F). Decanting for about an hour before serving is recommended to allow the wine to open up and reveal its full complexity.

Storage and Aging Potential

Les Dentelles 2021 has a cellaring potential of 3–5 years. Proper storage in a cool, dark environment will allow the wine to develop additional complexity and nuance over time.

Grape Varietals & Percentage Used
