Winery Background and History

Weingut Robert Weil, founded in 1875 by Dr. Robert Weil, is situated in Kiedrich within Germany’s Rheingau wine region. The estate has built a distinguished reputation for exclusively producing Riesling wines that exemplify the unique characteristics of their terroir. Over the years, the winery has seamlessly integrated modern winemaking techniques with traditional practices, focusing on cultivating vineyards such as Kiedricher Klosterberg, Kiedricher Gräfenberg, and Kiedricher Turmberg.

Producer and Winemaker

The estate is currently managed by Wilhelm Weil, representing the fourth generation of the founding family. Under his stewardship, Weingut Robert Weil continues to uphold its commitment to quality and innovation. Wilhelm’s dedication to meticulous vineyard management and precise winemaking has solidified the winery’s status as a benchmark producer of premium Riesling wines in the Rheingau region.

Vineyards and Microclimate

The Kiedrich Turmberg vineyard, a monopole of Weingut Robert Weil, spans 3.8 hectares northeast of Kiedrich at an elevation of approximately 240 meters. The vineyard’s steep slopes are composed of stony, fragmented phyllite interspersed with loess and loam, contributing to the distinctive minerality of the wines. The southwest exposure, coupled with the moderating influence of the Rhine River, creates an optimal microclimate for the cultivation of high-quality Riesling grapes.

Vinification & Aging Methods

The Robert Weil Kiedrich Turmberg Riesling Sekt Brut Nature 2019 is produced using the traditional method (Méthode Champenoise). This involves a secondary fermentation in the bottle, followed by an extended maturation on the lees for a minimum of 48 months. This prolonged lees aging enhances the wine’s complexity, imparts a fine mousse, and contributes to its rich texture while preserving the freshness and elegance characteristic of Riesling.

Tasting Notes

This sparkling Riesling presents a vibrant bouquet of citrus fruits, green apple, and delicate floral aromas. On the palate, it offers crisp acidity balanced by a subtle creaminess, showcasing flavors of lemon zest, ripe pear, and a hint of brioche. The fine mousse and pronounced minerality lead to a long, refreshing finish, embodying both power and finesse.

Food & Wine Pairing

The bright acidity and effervescence of this Brut Nature Sekt make it an excellent companion to a variety of dishes. It pairs particularly well with seafood such as oysters, smoked salmon, and sushi. Additionally, it complements poultry dishes, light appetizers, and can serve as an elegant aperitif, enhancing the dining experience with its refreshing profile.

Service Methods and Temperatures

To fully appreciate the nuances of this sparkling Riesling, serve it well-chilled at a temperature between 6 to 8 degrees Celsius (43 to 46 degrees Fahrenheit). Using a flute or white wine glass will help concentrate the aromas and maintain the effervescence. Pour gently to preserve the fine mousse, and enjoy immediately after opening to experience its full expression.

Storage and Aging Potential

While this Sekt is ready to be enjoyed upon release, its structure and acidity provide the potential for further aging. When stored in optimal conditions—cool, dark, and with a consistent temperature—it can develop additional complexity over the next 5 to 7 years, revealing deeper nuances and enhancing its overall character.
