Winery Background and History

Established in 1877 in Tuscany, Italy, Ruffino has a longstanding heritage in producing quality wines, particularly Chianti. The winery played a pivotal role in the history of Chianti, with its bottle bearing the very first DOCG seal when the designation was introduced in 1984.

Producer and Winemaker

Ruffino is the producer of this Chianti DOCG. The winemaking team focuses on crafting wines that embody the traditional characteristics of the Chianti region, emphasizing the expression of Sangiovese and complementary grape varieties.

Vineyards and Microclimate

The grapes for Ruffino’s Chianti DOCG are sourced from vineyards located within the Chianti appellation in Tuscany. These vineyards are situated at elevations between 200–350 meters above sea level and feature galestro soils, which contribute to the distinctive qualities of the wine.

Vinification & Aging Methods

The wine undergoes fermentation in stainless steel and concrete tanks, allowing for the preservation of its fresh and fruity character. This method highlights the primary fruit flavors and maintains the wine’s approachable style.

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Medium-intensity ruby red with purple highlights.

  • Aroma: Elegant violet notes and hints of red fruit, complemented by a slightly spiced finish.

  • Palate: Soft with a medium body and nice balance, displaying pleasantly fruity characteristics.

Food & Wine Pairing

This Chianti pairs well with traditional Tuscan dishes such as steak tartare, cured meats, and roast chicken. Its versatility also makes it suitable for pairing with a variety of pasta dishes and mild cheeses.

Service Methods and Temperatures

To fully appreciate its aromatic profile and structure, serve Ruffino Chianti DOCG 2023 at a temperature of 16–18°C (60–64°F). Decanting is not necessary; however, allowing the wine to breathe for a short period before serving can enhance its flavors.

Storage and Aging Potential

This wine is crafted for immediate enjoyment but can be stored in a cool, dark place with a consistent temperature for up to 2–3 years to allow for slight development of its flavors.

Grape Varietals & Percentage Used
