Winery Background and History

Ruffino, founded in 1877, is a prestigious Italian winery located in Tuscany’s Chianti region. Renowned for its dedication to quality and tradition, Ruffino has played a significant role in elevating Italian wines on the global stage. The Vin Santo del Chianti Serelle is a testament to their commitment to preserving and celebrating Tuscan winemaking heritage.

Producer and Winemaker

Ruffino’s winemaking team expertly blends traditional methods with modern techniques to craft wines that honor their rich legacy while appealing to contemporary palates.

Vineyards and Micro Climate

The Vin Santo del Chianti Serelle is produced from Trebbiano and Malvasia grapes sourced from Ruffino’s Gretole and La Solatia estates in Tuscany. These vineyards benefit from the region’s favorable climate, characterized by warm days and cool nights, which contribute to the development of the grapes’ distinctive flavors.

Vinification & Aging Methods

The production of Vin Santo involves drying the grapes on trellises in the traditional “vinsantaia” of Gretole. After natural drying, the grapes are fermented and aged in small oak barrels (caratelli) for approximately three years. This process imparts complex flavors and a rich mouthfeel to the wine.

Tasting Notes

The 2012 Vin Santo del Chianti Serelle exhibits a complex and intense bouquet with aromas of candied fruit, honey, hazelnuts, and citrus notes. On the palate, it offers a harmonious balance between sweetness and freshness, leading to a persistent and elegant finish.

Food & Wine Pairing

This Vin Santo pairs excellently with traditional Tuscan desserts such as cantucci (almond biscuits) or other almond-based pastries. It also complements blue cheeses and foie gras, making it a versatile choice for various culinary delights.

Service Methods and Temperatures

Serve the Vin Santo del Chianti Serelle chilled, at a temperature between 12-14°C (54-57°F), to fully appreciate its aromatic complexity and balanced sweetness. Using appropriate glassware will enhance the tasting experience.

Storage and Aging Potential

When stored in optimal conditions—a cool, dark place with consistent temperature and humidity—the Vin Santo del Chianti Serelle 2012 has aged gracefully and is expected to continue developing complexity over the coming years.
