Winery Background and History
Tiansai Vineyards, the producer of the Skyline series, is located in the Xinjiang region of China. Established in 2010, the winery has rapidly gained recognition for its commitment to producing high-quality wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Gobi Desert. The estate spans over 1,000 hectares, with vineyards planted at altitudes ranging from 1,000 to 1,200 meters above sea level. The combination of high elevation, abundant sunshine, and significant diurnal temperature variation creates an ideal environment for viticulture. Tiansai Vineyards employs sustainable farming practices and integrates modern winemaking techniques with traditional methods to craft wines that have garnered both national and international acclaim.
Producer and Winemaker
The winemaking team at Tiansai Vineyards is led by Chief Winemaker Zhang Jing, who has been with the winery since its inception. Zhang Jing holds a degree in Enology from the University of Bordeaux and brings extensive experience from working in various renowned wine regions in France. Her philosophy emphasizes minimal intervention in the winemaking process to allow the expression of the unique characteristics of the Xinjiang terroir. Under her guidance, Tiansai Vineyards has developed a reputation for producing elegant and expressive wines, particularly from international varietals such as Chardonnay and Marselan.
Vineyards and Microclimate
The vineyards of Tiansai are situated in the Gobi Desert within the Xinjiang region, characterized by a continental desert climate. The area experiences long, hot summers with abundant sunshine, providing optimal conditions for grape ripening. The significant diurnal temperature variation, with hot days and cool nights, helps to preserve acidity and develop complex flavors in the grapes. The soil composition is predominantly sandy loam with good drainage properties, forcing the vines to develop deep root systems and resulting in concentrated fruit. The combination of high altitude and low humidity reduces the risk of vine diseases, allowing for sustainable viticulture practices. Irrigation is carefully managed to ensure water availability during the growing season, given the arid conditions of the region.

Vinification & Aging Methods
The grapes for the Skyline Chardonnay Reserve 2023 are hand-harvested in the early morning hours to preserve their freshness. Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes undergo a gentle whole-cluster pressing to extract high-quality juice with minimal phenolic content. The must is then settled at low temperatures to clarify before fermentation. Fermentation is carried out in a combination of stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels, with a portion undergoing malolactic fermentation to enhance complexity and mouthfeel. The wine is aged on its lees for approximately 8 months, with regular bâtonnage (lees stirring) to enhance texture and integrate flavors. The use of French oak barrels, both new and seasoned, imparts subtle oak characteristics without overwhelming the varietal expression. Prior to bottling, the wine is fined and lightly filtered to ensure clarity and stability.

Tasting Notes
The Skyline Chardonnay Reserve 2023 presents a pale golden hue in the glass. On the nose, it offers aromas of yellow apple and honeycomb, complemented by tropical fruit notes such as mango, pineapple, and yuzu. The palate is smooth, with a pleasant, gentle acidity and flavors of green apple, pear, and a hint of vanilla from the oak aging. The finish is long and clean, leaving a lasting impression of citrus and floral notes.
Food & Wine Pairing
This Chardonnay pairs well with a variety of dishes. Its balanced acidity and fruit-forward profile make it an excellent match for roasted poultry, such as herb-roasted chicken or turkey. It also complements seafood dishes, including grilled salmon or seared scallops, where the wine’s acidity can cut through the richness of the dish. Creamy pasta dishes, like fettuccine alfredo or carbonara, are also enhanced by the wine’s texture and flavor profile. For cheese pairings, consider soft cheeses like Brie or Camembert, which harmonize with the wine’s creamy mouthfeel.
Service Methods and Temperatures
To fully appreciate the aromatic complexity and texture of the Skyline Chardonnay Reserve 2023, it is recommended to serve the wine at a temperature between 10-12°C (50-54°F). Using a medium-sized white wine glass will allow the aromas to concentrate and the flavors to fully express themselves. Decanting is not necessary; however, opening the bottle 15-20 minutes before serving can help the wine to open up and reveal its full range of aromas and flavors.
Storage and Aging Potential
While the Skyline Chardonnay Reserve 2023 is enjoyable upon release, it also has the potential to develop additional complexity with short-term cellaring. When stored under optimal conditions—away from direct light, at a consistent temperature of around 12°C (54°F), and with moderate humidity—the wine can evolve over the next 3 to 5 years. During this time, expect the development of more pronounced tertiary notes, such as honey, toasted nuts, and a richer mouthfeel, enhancing the overall complexity of the wine.
