Winery Background and History
Maison Trimbach, established in 1626 in Ribeauvillé, Alsace, has been a family-run winery for over 12 generations. Renowned for producing structured, long-lived, and elegant wines, Trimbach emphasizes the expression of terroir in its offerings. The Pinot Noir Réserve is a testament to their commitment to quality, showcasing the unique characteristics of Alsace’s Pinot Noir grape.
Producer and Winemaker
The Trimbach family oversees all aspects of production, with Pierre Trimbach serving as the chief winemaker. His nephew, Julien, assists in the winemaking process, ensuring the continuation of the family’s dedication to excellence. Pierre’s brother, Jean, and Pierre’s daughter, Anne, act as global brand ambassadors, promoting the Trimbach legacy worldwide.
Vineyards and Microclimate
The Pinot Noir Réserve 2021 is sourced from Trimbach’s own vineyards and those of their growers, with vines aged over 40 years. The vineyards are located in the southern part of Alsace, in villages such as Rodern and Saint-Hippolyte, featuring a mosaic of soils including granite, sandstone, marl, and limestone. This diversity contributes to the wine’s complexity and depth. The 2021 vintage experienced a challenging growing season with a harsh winter, heavy precipitation, and a cool, rainy summer. However, a superb late season with generous sunshine and significant temperature variations allowed the grapes to achieve good maturity and acidity, resulting in an unexpectedly exceptional harvest.

Vinification & Aging Methods
Grapes are selected at maturity and, after de-stemming, undergo gentle pneumatic pressing followed by an eight-day cold maceration to extract color and fruit. The juices are blended in stainless steel vats and old casks for malolactic fermentation. Unlike other Trimbach wines, the Pinot Noirs undergo malolactic fermentation to enhance their texture and complexity. After three months of aging in stainless steel tanks, the wine is bottled to preserve its freshness and vibrancy.

Tasting Notes
The 2021 Trimbach Pinot Noir Réserve presents delicate aromas of red and black berries, underlined by subtle smoky and forest floor notes. On the palate, it offers a beautifully structured mouthfeel, combining fruitiness—Morello cherries and kirsch—with supple, velvety tannins and juicy freshness. The wine’s bright acidity and refined tannins lead to a long, harmonious finish.
Food & Wine Pairing
This Pinot Noir pairs exceptionally well with roasted poultry, grilled salmon, and dishes featuring earthy ingredients like mushrooms and truffles. Its balanced acidity and moderate tannins complement charcuterie, soft cheeses, and even lightly spiced dishes, making it a versatile choice for various culinary experiences.
Service Methods and Temperatures
Serve at 14-16°C (57-61°F) to fully appreciate its aromatic profile and structure. Using a Burgundy-style glass will enhance the wine’s delicate aromas and flavors. Decanting is not necessary; however, allowing the wine to breathe for 15-20 minutes after opening can further develop its bouquet.
Storage and Aging Potential
The 2021 Trimbach Pinot Noir Réserve has good aging potential, with an expected evolution over the next 5-7 years. Proper storage in a cool, dark environment with stable temperatures will allow the wine to develop additional complexity, showcasing the depth and longevity characteristic of top Alsace Pinot Noirs.
