Winery Background and History
Maison Trimbach, established in 1626 in Ribeauvillé, Alsace, has been a family-run winery for over 12 generations. Renowned for producing structured, long-lived, and elegant wines, Trimbach emphasizes the expression of terroir in its offerings. The Cuvée Frédéric Emile is one of their flagship wines, named in honor of a notable ancestor who significantly contributed to the winery’s reputation.
Producer and Winemaker
The Trimbach family continues to oversee all aspects of production, with Pierre Trimbach leading as the chief winemaker. His nephew, Julien, assists in the winemaking process, ensuring the continuation of the family’s dedication to quality. Pierre’s brother, Jean, and Pierre’s daughter, Anne, serve as global brand ambassadors, promoting the Trimbach legacy worldwide.
Vineyards and Microclimate
The Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Emile is sourced from the Grand Cru vineyards of Geisberg and Osterberg, located on the hillsides overlooking Ribeauvillé. These south and southeast-facing vineyards benefit from a unique microclimate, with marl-limestone-sandstone soils that provide excellent drainage and mineral complexity. The 2000 vintage experienced favorable weather conditions, allowing for the development of noble rot (botrytis cinerea), essential for producing Sélection de Grains Nobles wines.

Vinification & Aging Methods
Grapes affected by noble rot were meticulously hand-harvested at optimal ripeness. After gentle pressing, the juice underwent fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve its purity and freshness. The fermentation process was carefully monitored to achieve a balance between sweetness and acidity. Following fermentation, the wine was aged in bottle to develop its complexity before release.

Tasting Notes
The 2000 Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Emile Sélection de Grains Nobles exhibits a complex bouquet of lemon candy, herbal tea, and mineral aromas. On the palate, it reveals layers of candied citrus fruits intertwined with pronounced minerality, offering a juicy yet structured experience. The wine’s bright acidity balances its luscious sweetness, leading to a long, refined finish.
Food & Wine Pairing
This exquisite late-harvest Riesling pairs exceptionally well with foie gras, blue cheeses, and rich desserts such as tarte tatin or crème brûlée. Its balance of sweetness and acidity also complements spicy Asian cuisine, providing a harmonious contrast to dishes with a hint of heat.
Service Methods and Temperatures
Serve chilled at 10-12°C (50-54°F) to fully appreciate its aromatic complexity and structure. Using a white wine glass with a narrow bowl will help concentrate the aromas, enhancing the tasting experience. Decanting is not necessary; however, allowing the wine to breathe for a few minutes after pouring can further unveil its intricate bouquet.
Storage and Aging Potential
The 2000 Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Emile Sélection de Grains Nobles possesses remarkable aging potential, capable of evolving gracefully over several decades. When stored in optimal conditions—cool, dark, and with a consistent temperature—the wine will continue to develop deeper complexity, showcasing the longevity characteristic of top Alsace Rieslings.
