Winery Background and History
Clos Henri Vineyard, situated in Marlborough, New Zealand, was established in 2000 by the renowned Sancerre winemaking family, Henri Bourgeois. With a legacy spanning ten generations in France’s Loire Valley, the Bourgeois family sought to explore new terroirs, leading them to the diverse landscapes of Marlborough. Clos Henri seamlessly integrates French winemaking traditions with New Zealand’s unique viticultural conditions, focusing primarily on Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.
Producer and Winemaker
The estate remains under the stewardship of the Bourgeois family, who bring their extensive experience from Sancerre to Marlborough. Their philosophy emphasizes organic farming practices and minimal intervention, allowing the wines to authentically express their terroir. The winemaking team is dedicated to crafting wines that balance Old World elegance with New World vitality.
Vineyards and Microclimate
The Otira Single Vineyard is characterized by glacial stones, which contribute to excellent drainage and impart a distinct minerality to the wine. Marlborough’s cool climate, marked by significant diurnal temperature variations, ensures a prolonged growing season. This allows the Sauvignon Blanc grapes to develop concentrated flavors while retaining vibrant acidity.

Vinification & Aging Methods
