Winery Background and History

The Serego Alighieri estate, established in 1353 by Pietro Alighieri, son of the poet Dante Alighieri, is one of the oldest winemaking estates in Valpolicella Classica, Veneto, Italy. Located in Gargagnago, the estate has been managed by 21 generations of the Alighieri family. In 1973, the estate partnered with Masi Agricola, combining centuries-old traditions with modern winemaking techniques to produce wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region.

Producer and Winemaker

Serego Alighieri wines are produced under the guidance of the Masi Technical Group, led by Raffaele Boscaini. This team of experts, including oenologists and agronomists, collaborates closely with the Alighieri family to ensure that each wine embodies the estate’s rich heritage and commitment to quality. Their approach emphasizes sustainable viticulture and the use of indigenous grape varieties to create wines that are both authentic and expressive.

Vineyards and Microclimate

The estate’s vineyards are situated in the heart of Valpolicella Classica, characterized by rolling hills, calcareous soils, and a temperate climate influenced by Lake Garda. These conditions provide optimal sun exposure and ventilation, promoting the cultivation of high-quality grapes. The unique microclimate contributes to the development of complex aromas and flavors in the wines, reflecting the distinctiveness of the region.

Vinification & Aging Methods

Grapes are hand-harvested and undergo fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures to preserve their aromatic qualities. The wine is then aged on its lees for a brief period to enhance its texture and complexity. This approach ensures a fresh and vibrant wine that retains its varietal character.

Tasting Notes

Possessioni Bianco 2023 displays a pale straw yellow color with light green reflections. The nose offers typical Sauvignon fruitiness with hints of pears. On the palate, it presents good structure balanced with refreshing acidity, and a dry finish.

Food & Wine Pairing

This elegant white wine is an excellent aperitif and pairs well with antipasti, fish dishes, summer foods, pizza, salads, salami, and white meat. Its balanced structure and vibrant fruit flavors complement a variety of dishes, making it a versatile choice for various culinary experiences.

Service Methods and Temperatures

To fully appreciate its nuances, serve this wine at a temperature of 8–10°C (46–50°F). No decanting is necessary; simply open and serve to enjoy its fresh and vibrant character. Using appropriate glassware, such as a standard white wine glass, will further enhance the tasting experience.

Storage and Aging Potential

With proper storage in a cool, dark place, this wine is best enjoyed within 3 years of the vintage. It is crafted to be consumed young to appreciate its fresh and fruity character. Monitoring the wine’s development periodically will ensure it is enjoyed at its peak.
