Winery Background and History
Résonance is the inaugural Oregon venture of Maison Louis Jadot, a venerable Burgundy producer established in 1859. Founded in 2013, Résonance embodies the fusion of Burgundian winemaking expertise with Oregon’s distinctive terroir. The winery focuses on crafting expressive, site-specific wines that reflect the unique characteristics of their vineyards in the Willamette Valley. This endeavor marks Louis Jadot’s first project outside of France, highlighting their commitment to exploring and showcasing the potential of Oregon’s wine regions.
Producer and Winemaker
The winemaking team at Résonance is led by Guillaume Large, who brings extensive experience from his tenure in Burgundy. Collaborating closely with Louis Jadot’s longtime winemaker, Jacques Lardière, Guillaume employs traditional Burgundian techniques adapted to Oregon’s terroir. Their shared philosophy emphasizes minimal intervention, allowing the vineyard’s natural expression to shine through in each wine. This approach ensures that Résonance wines embody both the heritage of Burgundy and the distinctiveness of Oregon.
Vineyards and Microclimate
The Découverte Vineyard is situated in the Dundee Hills AVA within Oregon’s Willamette Valley. This region is renowned for its red volcanic Jory soils, which provide excellent drainage and impart unique mineral qualities to the wines. The vineyard benefits from a temperate climate characterized by warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters. This diurnal temperature variation allows for slow, even ripening of the Chardonnay grapes, preserving their natural acidity and developing complex flavors.

Vinification & Aging Methods
The 2020 Découverte Vineyard Chardonnay underwent fermentation in French oak barrels, a portion of which were new, to enhance complexity and texture. The wine was aged for approximately 16 months in these barrels, allowing it to develop depth while maintaining its vibrant fruit character. This careful balance of oak influence and fruit expression results in a Chardonnay that is both nuanced and reflective of its terroir.

Tasting Notes
The 2020 Découverte Vineyard Chardonnay presents a complex bouquet featuring aromas of white flowers, lemon peel, tangerine, green almond, hazelnut, nutmeg, and fresh brioche. On the palate, it is crisp and vibrant, showcasing flavors of fresh and dried fruits, complemented by precise minerality. The wine’s balanced acidity and layered profile lead to a long, elegant finish.
Food & Wine Pairing
This Chardonnay’s bright acidity and complex flavor profile make it a versatile companion to a variety of dishes. It pairs exceptionally well with seafood such as grilled salmon or seared scallops, as well as poultry dishes like roast chicken with herbs. Creamy pasta dishes and soft cheeses also complement the wine’s richness and minerality, enhancing the overall dining experience.
Service Methods and Temperatures
To fully appreciate the nuances of this Chardonnay, serve it chilled at a temperature between 10 to 12 degrees Celsius (50 to 54 degrees Fahrenheit). Using a medium-sized white wine glass will allow the aromas to concentrate, enhancing the tasting experience. Decanting is not necessary; simply uncork and pour to enjoy its vibrant character.
Storage and Aging Potential
While the 2020 Découverte Vineyard Chardonnay is delightful in its youth, displaying fresh fruit flavors and lively acidity, it also possesses aging potential. When stored in optimal conditions—a cool, dark place with a consistent temperature—it can evolve over the next 5 to 7 years, developing additional complexity and nuanced tertiary flavors that further enhance its appeal.
