Winery Background and History
Maison Trimbach, established in 1626 in Ribeauvillé, Alsace, has been a family-run winery for over 12 generations. Renowned for producing structured, long-lived, and elegant wines, Trimbach emphasizes the expression of terroir in its offerings. Their Pinot Blanc exemplifies this commitment, showcasing the unique characteristics of Alsace’s diverse vineyards.
Producer and Winemaker
The Trimbach family continues to oversee all aspects of production, with Pierre Trimbach leading as the chief winemaker. His nephew, Julien, assists in the winemaking process, ensuring the continuation of the family’s dedication to quality. Pierre’s brother, Jean, and Pierre’s daughter, Anne, serve as global brand ambassadors, promoting the Trimbach legacy worldwide.
Vineyards and Microclimate
The Pinot Blanc 2017 is crafted from grapes sourced from various selected growers, carefully chosen by Pierre Trimbach during the harvest. These vineyards are situated on hillside terroirs on the sub-Vosges hills, featuring soils dating from the Triassic and Jurassic periods, composed of shell limestone, dolomite, marl, and limestone with south/southeast exposure. The region’s semi-continental climate, characterized by warm, sunny days and cool nights, allows for slow, even ripening, preserving the grape’s natural acidity and aromatic complexity.
Grape Varietals & Percentage Used
100% Pinot Blanc
Vinification & Aging Methods
Grapes are gently pressed in pneumatic presses, and the juice undergoes fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete vats. To maintain freshness and natural acidity, no malolactic fermentation is conducted. The wine is bottled in the spring following the harvest and aged in the cellar before release, ensuring it is ready to drink upon reaching the market.

Tasting Notes
The 2017 Trimbach Pinot Blanc presents delicate spicy nuances and sweet apple and pear aromas on the inviting nose. On the palate, it is dry, slender, and gentle, with juicy fruit and great purity. The wine’s lively acidity balances the fruitiness, leading to a clean and refreshing finish.
Food & Wine Pairing
This Pinot Blanc pairs exceptionally well with a variety of dishes, including tartes flambées, shellfish, fried calamari, pies, and cold cuts. Its versatility makes it an ideal companion for light meals and an excellent choice for aperitifs, banquets, and receptions.
Service Methods and Temperatures
Serve chilled at 10-12°C (50-54°F) to fully appreciate its aromatic profile and structure. Using a white wine glass will help concentrate the aromas, providing an optimal tasting experience. Decanting is not necessary; however, allowing the wine to breathe for a few minutes after pouring can enhance its expressive bouquet.
Storage and Aging Potential
The 2017 Trimbach Pinot Blanc has good aging potential, with an expected evolution over the next 3-5 years. Over time, it may develop additional complexity, showcasing the depth and longevity characteristic of top Alsace Pinot Blanc wines. Proper storage in a cool, dark environment with stable temperatures will ensure its graceful maturation.
