Winery Background and History
Maison Trimbach, established in 1626 in Ribeauvillé, Alsace, has been a family-run winery for over 12 generations. Renowned for producing structured, long-lived, and elegant wines, Trimbach emphasizes the expression of terroir in its offerings. Their Riesling Sélection de Vieilles Vignes exemplifies this commitment, showcasing the unique characteristics of Alsace’s old vines.
Producer and Winemaker
The Trimbach family continues to oversee all aspects of production, with Pierre Trimbach leading as the chief winemaker. His nephew, Julien, assists in the winemaking process, ensuring the continuation of the family’s dedication to quality. Pierre’s brother, Jean, and Pierre’s daughter, Anne, serve as global brand ambassadors, promoting the Trimbach legacy worldwide.
Vineyards and Microclimate
The Riesling Sélection de Vieilles Vignes is sourced from over 70-year-old vines located in Hunawihr, specifically from the Grand Cru Rosacker and lieu-dit Muehlforst vineyards. These sites feature marl-limestone soils with south-east and south exposures, providing optimal conditions for Riesling. The combination of old vines and favorable microclimate contributes to the wine’s complexity and depth.

Vinification & Aging Methods
Grapes are handpicked at optimal ripeness to achieve maximum depth of flavor and complexity. They are gently pressed in a pneumatic press, and the juice undergoes fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats for three to four weeks. To preserve freshness and fruity aromas, no malolactic fermentation or extended lees aging is conducted. The wine is vinified to complete dryness with no residual sugar and is not aged in oak.

Tasting Notes
The 2020 Trimbach Riesling Sélection de Vieilles Vignes offers superb complexity and aromatic concentration, attributed to the old vines. It presents citrus aromas and white flowers on the nose. On the palate, the wine is generous and concentrated, exhibiting beautiful fullness supported by crystalline fruitiness and fine, precise acidity. The finish is long and well-structured, leaving a lasting impression.
Food & Wine Pairing
This Riesling pairs exceptionally well with seafood dishes such as grilled prawns, seared scallops, and fresh oysters. Its vibrant acidity and minerality also complement Asian cuisine, including sushi and lightly spiced Thai dishes. Additionally, it serves as an excellent accompaniment to traditional Alsace dishes like choucroute garnie.
Service Methods and Temperatures
Serve chilled at 10-12°C (50-54°F) to fully appreciate its aromatic profile and structure. Using a white wine glass will help concentrate the aromas, providing an optimal tasting experience.
Storage and Aging Potential
The 2020 Riesling Sélection de Vieilles Vignes has significant aging potential, with an expected evolution over the next 10-15 years. Over time, it will develop additional complexity, showcasing the depth and longevity characteristic of top Alsace Rieslings.
